Adoption Coordinators
Adoption Coordinators are the front line in sending our animals home to the right families. As a Coordinator, you are responsible for screening the new family and judging their suitability for the animal they are interested in adopting. There are times when the animal they have chosen is not the best pick for their home. For example – a bouncy dog might not do best in a home with small active children or a shy puppy might need a quieter environment. It is your responsibility to help them find another animal that would make a better match. In addition, not every person wanting a pet should have one. There are times that you may need to explain to a person that we will not adopt to them, and this must be done in a professional manner.
Here is a breakdown of some of the responsibilities this position holds:
- Initiate contact with potential adopter after application is received.
This may be done via email or phone
- Calls must be made to check personal and veterinary references.
Checklists/"cheat sheets" will be made available
- Schedule and perform home visits.
- Must get to know dogs in our program to better facilitate proper placement in the right home.
- Will maintain accurate and up to date descriptions of the dogs in our program.
- Must be confident and assertive to tell some individuals "No, at this time, you do not qualify."
- Must be able to attend a minimum of ONE Meet and Greet per month to be available to potential adopters to answer questions about particular dogs.
- Will follow up with adopter at specified contact intervals to check for problems in the home and to answer questions they may not think to contact us to ask about.
We will add to this list if more items become necessary.
